Japanese mochi-tsuki (rice pounding) with hayashi (musical accompaniment)

This is a performance of pounding rice to hayashi (musical accompaniment played on traditional Japanese instruments), and spectators can participate in rice pounding, wearing a happi coat. The performance is popular, especially among people from other countries. The fresh rice cake is served for dessert.

Yosakoi-Soran dance

This new event, in which people in fancy costumes using clappers perform their original dances to unique Soran songs, adds to the atmosphere of early summer in Sapporo. Performances by teams participating in the event are great attractions for international conferences.
