Around NYU

The West Village is a largely residential area on the west side of downtown. The Village is known for having an active nightlife and a bustling performing arts scene. It is home to many Off-Broadway theaters
NOHO (NOrth of HOuston) has great shopping. It is also known for having some of the nicest old residential buildings on the side streets.
Nolita (NOrth of LIttle ITAly) is known for high-end boutiques. In the second half of the 1990s , the neighborhood saw an influx of young urban professionals and an explosion of expensive retail boutiques and trendy restaurants and bars.
The East Village has been the home of cultural icons and movements from the American gangster to the Warhol Superstars, folk music to punk rock and hip-hop, advanced education to organized activism, experimental theater to the Beat Generation .
SOHO (SOuth of HOuston) A central location for arts & culture, food & drink, fashion & shopping.
Little Italy The heart of Little Italy is Mulberry Street. The heavenly aromas of the Italian bakeries and restaurants still waft around Mulberry and Grand Streets.

Uptown/Harlem

Central park is a huge public park, 843 acres in area, located in the center of Manhattan. Designed in 1858, it offers various gardens, ponds, a zoo, an ice skating rink, a pool, an inline skating area, miniature golf, a boathouse, and unlimited people-watching.
The Upper West Side is the traditional stronghold of the city's intellectual, creative, and moneyed community.
The Upper East Side is a convenient starting point for exploring Central Park and the many museums along Museum Mile.
Harlem/East Harlem is known throughout the world as a center of African American culture. East Harlem, also called Spanish Harlem, is a Latino community.
Morning Side Heights is home to Columbia University. Other landmarks in Morningside Heights include the Cathedral Church of Saint John the Divine.

Midtown

Midtown East is primarily a business district, although it also has popular tourist attractions such as the Chrysler Building and the United Nations.
Midtown West is packed with abundant restaurants and the finest live entertainment in the world.
Theater District Broadway's theaters and Times Square's gaudy animated neon signs and giant television screens have made this area one of New York's iconic images.
Garment District Here you will find specialty stores that cater to a variety of niches. Find furs, leather, or whatever your heart may desire.
Chelsea and Meat Packing District A new art center in New York, with over two hundred galleries and more moving in all the time.
Meat Packing District Trendy restaurants and exclusive nightclubs define this neighborhood's nightlife.
Gramercy Centrally located, but quiet and scenic. An oasis in the middle of all of the action.

Lower Manhattan

Battery Park Battery park is the port area where you can catch the liberty island ferry. It is also a short walk to the Wall St financial district.
Financial District The Financial District encompasses a large portion of southern Manhattan and is home to the famous New York Stock Exchange on Wall Street.
Civic Center The Civic Center encompasses City Hall, the City Hall Park, and numerous city, county and federal buildings. Sights include City Hall and the City Hall Park, the Woolworth Building, St. Paul 's Chapel and Park Row and the entrance to the Brooklyn Bridge.
Tribeca (TRIangle BElow CAnal) TriBeCa extends south from Canal Street to Vesey Street . TriBeCa is known for restaurants and retail food stores.
China Town The fish and herb markets along Canal, Mott, Mulberry, and Elizabeth streets are fun for their bustle and exotica.

Brooklyn Heights Brooklyn Heights is New York 's first historic district . Its offers dozens of excellent restaurants and historic churches.
DUMBO (Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass) It's a goofy name but artist-owned loft spaces have spawned a number of top galleries.
Park Slope is one of Brooklyn 's most beautiful neighborhoods, boasting blocks of well-preserved brownstones and the gorgeous Prospect Park
Around Hotel Marriott (Downtown) Downtown is across Court Street from Brooklyn Heights . The New York Marriott Brooklyn opened downtown in 1998, the first hotel in Brooklyn in 50 years, establishing Brooklyn as an accessible place to stay for both buisiness and travellers and vacationers.
Williamsburg
is connected to the East Village and Lower East Side in Manhattan by the Williamsburg Bridge over the East River . Williamsburg is home to many ethnic groups and a thriving art community .
Coney Island is one of the most fun, noisy, happy places you can spend your summer weekend.

Another NYC

New York City has five boroughs: the Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, and Staten Island .
The Bronx The Bronx's attractions include Yankee Stadium , home of the New York Yankees baseball team, the Bronx Zoo, Bronx High School of Science , Walton High School, Morris Park, the New York Botanical Garden , Wave Hill, Little Italy on Arthur Avenue, Fordham University and Manhattan College. It includes two of the largest parks in NYC, Pelham Bay Park and Van Cortlandt Park. Pelham Bay Park also has a large man-made public beach called Orchard Beach created by Robert Moses .
Queens
has two of the busiest airports in the world, John F. Kennedy International Airport, located in Jamaica , and La Guardia Airport, in Flushing. Western Queens is becoming an artistic hub, including the Noguchi Museum, Socrates Sculpture Park, Museum for African Art, and the American Museum of the Moving Image. The current poet laureate of Queens is Ishle Yi Park.
Staten Island the Staten Island Ferry is a commuter ferry that carries passengers and motor vehicles between Manhattan and Staten Island. The ferry also offers an excellent low-cost way to tour New York Harbor.
New Jersey
Jersey City and Hoboken NJ lie across the Hudson River from downtown Manhattan. The PATH train links Manhattan and the New Jersey city of Newark, stopping at the West Village and the WTC site. Ferry service directly to Hoboken and Jersey City is easily accessible.
