Around NYU

The West Village is a largely residential area on the west side of downtown. The Village is known for having an active nightlife and a bustling performing arts scene. It is home to many Off-Broadway theaters
NOHO (NOrth of HOuston) has great shopping. It is also known for having some of the nicest old residential buildings on the side streets.
Nolita (NOrth of LIttle ITAly) is known for high-end boutiques. In the second half of the 1990s , the neighborhood saw an influx of young urban professionals and an explosion of expensive retail boutiques and trendy restaurants and bars.
The East Village has been the home of cultural icons and movements from the American gangster to the Warhol Superstars, folk music to punk rock and hip-hop, advanced education to organized activism, experimental theater to the Beat Generation .

Little Italy The heart of Little Italy is Mulberry Street. The heavenly aromas of the Italian bakeries and restaurants still waft around Mulberry and Grand Streets.

Uptown/Harlem

Central park is a huge public park, 843 acres in area, located in the center of Manhattan. Designed in 1858, it offers various gardens, ponds, a zoo, an ice skating rink, a pool, an inline skating area, miniature golf, a boathouse, and unlimited people-watching.

The Bronx The Bronx's attractions include Yankee Stadium , home of the New York Yankees baseball team, the Bronx Zoo, Bronx High School of Science , Walton High School, Morris Park, the New York Botanical Garden , Wave Hill, Little Italy on Arthur Avenue, Fordham University and Manhattan College. It includes two of the largest parks in NYC, Pelham Bay Park and Van Cortlandt Park. Pelham Bay Park also has a large man-made public beach called Orchard Beach created by Robert Moses .
Queens has two of the busiest airports in the world, John F. Kennedy International Airport, located in Jamaica , and La Guardia Airport, in Flushing. Western Queens is becoming an artistic hub, including the Noguchi Museum, Socrates Sculpture Park, Museum for African Art, and the American Museum of the Moving Image. The current poet laureate of Queens is Ishle Yi Park.
Staten Island the Staten Island Ferry is a commuter ferry that carries passengers and motor vehicles between Manhattan and Staten Island. The ferry also offers an excellent low-cost way to tour New York Harbor.
New Jersey
Jersey City and Hoboken NJ lie across the Hudson River from downtown Manhattan. The PATH train links Manhattan and the New Jersey city of Newark, stopping at the West Village and the WTC site. Ferry service directly to Hoboken and Jersey City is easily accessible.
