The HLT/NAACL 2004 Conference
Committee invites proposals for tutorials to be presented at the
HLT/NAACL 2004 conference, which will be held at The Park Plaza
Hotel, Boston, MA, on May 2-7, 2004. Tutorials will be held on Sunday,
May 2.
Introductory half-day tutorials covering topics in
Speech Processing, Information Retrieval, and Text
Processing are sought; topics in one area that will be of interest
to researchers in the others are especially encouraged. Our target is
to have approximately six tutorials in total.
CONFERENCE BACKGROUND
HLT/NAACL 2004 combines the HLT (Human Language
Technology) and NAACL (North American chapter of the Association for
Computational Linguistics) conference series. For details please see
http://www.hlt-naacl04.org.
SUBMISSION DETAILS
Proposals for tutorials should contain:
- A title and brief (2-page max) description of the tutorial topic
and content.
- If approximately the same tutorial has been given elsewhere,
please list previous venues and approximate audience sizes.
(Nothing wrong with this; we'd just like to know.)
- An estimate of the audience size.
- The names, postal addresses, phone numbers, and email
addresses of the organizers, with one-paragraph statements
of their research interests and areas of expertise.
- A description of special requirements for technical needs
(computer infrastructure, etc).
Proposals should be submitted by electronic mail, in PDF
(preferred), plain ASCII, or Microsoft Word text as soon as possible,
but no later than November 1, 2003. Submissions should be sent to
hlt-naacl-tutorials@ling.ucsd.edu
with the subject line "HLT/NAACL 2004 TUTORIAL
PROPOSAL".
PLEASE NOTE: PROPOSALS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED BY
REGULAR MAIL OR FAX.
PRACTICAL ARRANGEMENTS
Accepted tutorial presenters must provide descriptions
of their tutorials for inclusion in the conference registration
material by February 15, 2004. The description must be provided in
two formats: an ASCII version that can be included with the email
announcement, and an HTML version that can be included on the
conference home page.
Organizers must provide full tutorial notes to the
Proceedings Chair by March 17, 2004.
FINANCES
Tutorials must be financially self-supporting. The
conference organizers will establish tutorial registration rates so as
to provide the room, audio-visual equipment, internet access, snacks
for breaks, and the tutorial notes. A description of any additional
anticipated expenses must be included in the proposal.
Tutorial presenters will be compensated per ACL
policies; see http://www.cis.udel.edu/~carberry/ACL/tutorial-payment-policy.html.
